Upcoming: Martin Wittfooth – “Offering” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

On October 17th, Offering from Martin Wittfooth (interviewed) will be opening at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York (529 West 20th Street). The exhibition will feature all new paintings, including this 73″ x 100″ beast of piece seen above entitled Rainsong. We love the new burst of color seen in this new imagery and can’t wait to see what else he has planned. Showing: Kelsey Brookes – “Psychedelic Space” @ Quint Gallery

Currently at Quint Gallery in La Jolla is a showing from Kelsey Brookes that coincides with the release of his new book Psychedelic Space. On display are a series of paintings and prints as well as a video that explains his recent series of works that use the molecular structures of neurotransmitters and psychedelic substances as their starting point. Last week, Los Angeles graffiti legend RISK finished a mural (arranged by LeBasse Projects) at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena. The new piece featuring his “Beautifully Destroyed” aesthetic is part of the OUTSIDEIN, an indoor and outdoor exhibition that will focus graffiti-based mural painting that will eventually grow to include work from Olivia Bevilacqua, David Flores, Chase, Robbie Conal, Cryptik, Jeanne Detallante, Shepard Fairey, James Jean, Geoff McFetridge, Kenny Scharf, and Jeff Soto. Openings: Aaron Horkey & Esao Andrews & João Ruas – “The Gilded Age” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Over the weekend, Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles opened the doors to The Gilded Age featuring new works by Aaron Horkey, Esao Andrews, and João Ruas. Co-curated by Andrew Hosner of Thinkspace and Horkey himself, the duo set out to put together a “dream-team” exhibition, giving it a title that harkened back to the late 19th century and the industrial revolution. Openings: Zaria Forman – “SLIP” @ Winston Wächter Fine Art

Last week, Winston Wachter Fine Art in New York hosted the opening of Zaria Forman’s exhibition entitled SLIP. Infused with climate change awareness, the pastel drawings from the Brooklyn-based artist documents subjects that range from the melting icebergs in Greenland to the rising sea levels that threaten the Maldives. Despite the rainy weather, fans braved the deluge to check out the her new work including her largest piece to date. NuArt ’15: Recap

With this year’s NuArt Festival wrapping up last week, we now have some more photos of outdoor works that we may have missed in our earlier coverage. Hitting the streets of Stavenger, the roster of artists left their recognizable marks over the Norwegian city like the piece seen above from Ernest Zacharevic that features stitch work to keep the locals warm in the upcoming winter. Hitting the streets of Los Angeles once again, Anthony Lister (filmed) spent time getting up all over town the last couple weeks leading up to his current show at New Image Art. Showing his versatility with the roller and spraycans, working day and night, the Australian vandal left one of his signature ballerinas at Superchief Gallery as well as his take on police brutality (seen above). Previews: JR – “DECADE, Portrait d’une génération” @ Galerie Perrotin (Paris)

Tomorrow night (September 12th), the newest solo from JR (interviewed) will be opening at the rue de Turenne and impasse Saint-Claude spaces of Galerie Perrotin in Paris. Entitled DECADE, Portrait dune génération, the exhibition will feature a selection of his videos, ink on wood pieces, and recent photographs that has spanned the last 10 years. With most of the Forest For The Trees murals finished, now’s the time to do the first part of our recap of this year’s event (also see 2013, 2014). The name of the mural festival comes from the phrase “they can’t see the forest for the trees” which signifies the inability to understand the greater picture when you’re too focused solely on what’s in front of you.
