Openings: Mark Drew – “What Goes On?” @ Spoke Art (New York)

Earlier this month, Spoke Art’s New York location hosted the opening of Mark Drew’s new solo show. Entitled What Goes On?, the new body of work continues the Tokyo-based artist’s signature juxtaposition of Peanuts comics and 90s rap lyrics. The mashup of hip hop bars with Snoopy & gang by the Australian artist takes two presumably familiar elements for the viewer and generates a new refreshing point of view and interpretation. Upcoming: Peanuts Global Artist Collective

Lovers of Snoopy and the Gang should rejoice with the impending launch of the Peanuts Global Artist Collective on April 16th. Starting in New York with the unveiling of public art murals in Hudson Square and then moving on to a special installation at the Snoopy Museum in Tokyo, artists Mr. A, Nina Chanel Abney, AVAF, FriendsWithYou, Kenny Scharf, Tomokazu Matsuyama (seen above), and Rob Pruitt will be remixing classic Peanuts imagery with their own artistic vision.
