As part of this year’s POW! WOW! Long Beach (more coverage here) the Papercut Lounge worked with a group of artists to make zines available to festival attendees (which you can still purchase online here). The popup space not only served as a shop but also featured a cascading installation of books by Olga Lah and a large painting from Brendan Monroe as well as hosted the kickoff and closing party for the week-long, city-wide event. We first got turned on to the work of The Draculas during this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii where they painted an amazing and surreal campfire scene. The Southern California-based duo, comprised of Gary Musgrave and Jeff McMillan, recently painted mural for the ETA Agency in Long Beach featuring a seaside city rampage kaiju battle. After showing you some in-progress shots and some sneak peeks of the massive amount of work in progress on the streets of Kakaako, we now have a recap of many of the walls and public interventions that were created for POW! WOW! Hawaii. This year’s event had locations that were more compact and centrally located, leading to a more easily navigated set of murals.
