Basel Week Miami ’14: Tom Fruin @ AQUA (Paul Loya Gallery)

While walking through the Aqua Art Fair (covered) during Basel Week Miami, we were delighted to come across the work of Tom Fruin at the Paul Loya Gallery booth. Although we were familiar with his amazing stain glass installation pieces (see 2014, 2012), we were not aware of the versatility of the Brooklyn-based artist. On display were metal works fashioned into cop cars and grids as well as a quilt made from found drug bags. Take a look at more photos below… See all our coverage of Basel […]

Basel Week Miami ’14: Pulse

While in town for Basel Week Miami, we made sure to head north a little ways to attend the Pulse held at their new location – Indian Beach Park. The tenth edition of the  event featured some familiar names as well as many artists new to us. One of these was the sculptural works of Jorge Mayet (seen above) at the Galeria Horrach Moya booth. Enjoy more photos below form the fair… See all our coverage of Basel Week Miami here.

Streets: Tom Fruin’s Stained Glass House @ Brooklyn Bridge Park

As a followup to his stained glass watchtower in 2012 (covered), Tom Fruin created a new installation last month at the Brooklyn Bridge Park for the Dumbo Arts Festival. Entitled Kolonihavehus, the house created from plexiglass was a hit with visitors during the day and at night, although it was particularly stunning lit up once the sun went down. Temporarily inhabited by duo CoreAct, attendees of the event were able to see the art structure enhanced by a collaborative physical performance. Via Colossal.

Streets: Tom Fruin – “Watertower” (New York)

We recently came across this stunning new installation from Tom Fruin in New York entitled Watertower. The NY-based artist’s sculptural creation, which is visible from Lower Manhattan, FDR Drive, and the Manhattan & Brooklyn Bridges, is built from salvaged plexiglass and steel throughout NYC sourced from a wide range of materials including old sign shops to closed-down artist studios and various warehouses. The piece was then mouned on a water platform in DUMBO, Brooklyn can be seen glittering during the day and glowing at night […]
