RETNA x Jossie Ochoa Body Paint Project

Working with his muse, Jossie Ochoa, RETNA (featured) recently completed another project with the Guatemalan American model. With video and photography provided by The Golden Kingdom, the graffiti writer utilized his urban script for a body painting session. This was not their first collaboration as she was featured on RETNA’s billboards in West Hollywood, San Vicente and Sunset back in 2014 if you remember. Continuing his Whole Glory project, Scott Campbell will be bringing the concept to Basel Week Miami at the Juxtapoz Clubhouse (2400 NW 5th Street). For this holiday season, Faile (featured) has teamed up with Kiehls to release a collection of skin care products to benefit Feeding America. The Patrick’s worked with the American cosmetics brand retailer, gifting their design skills and artwork on a range of products, with each one labeled conveniently as to how many meals you are helping provide to families in need. Releases: James Jean x MAEKAN – “Masquerade” Print

Kickstarter: Konbit Shelter Project

The Konbit Shelter Project has launched a Kickstarter campaign to support their ongoing work with a community in Haiti. Created by a group of engineers, architects and artists, including Swoon (interviewed), who wanted to make an ongoing commitment to work with the local community to help with reconstruction efforts following the devastation wrought by the earthquake which struck the country in 2010, the project takes its name from the Creole term for the traditional form of cooperative labor which is common throughout Haitian agriculture and society. After working with the Legion of Honor on an Egyptian exhibition (covered), RETNA’s (featured) recently took the role of the artistic designer for another Bay Area institution, the SF Opera. Again like with the exhibition, the choice of the infamous Los Angeles graffiti writer’s imagery as the backdrop was a bold but interesting decision as his script takes influence from hieroglyphics which matches up well with the current production of Aida, Verdi’s famous opera set in Egypt. Openings: Sean Mahan – “Rendered Problematic” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Alongside Sandra Chevrier (interviewed) showing in the main space (covered) of Thinkspace in Los Angeles, Sean Mahan also presented a small solo show in the project room. Openings: Allison Sommers & Ozabu – “Bruxism” & “彷徨 (Wander)” @ Thinkspace

A couple weekends ago, Allison Sommers (interviewed) & Ozabu opened their shows at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Bruxism in the main space was an immersive solo from Sommers featuring her increasingly abstracted meaty subject matter at times housed in various paraphernalia, completed by an installation that was like a record of how the new pieces were conceived and completed.
