After being introduced the intriguing outdoor works of HuskMitNavn during Komafest (covered) last year, we were curious to see how his work translated to the gallery setting. A showing at the V1 Gallery entitled One Of These Days gave us this opportunity to see some new drawings and paintings from the Danish artist in his characteristic colorful, humorous, and cartoonish style. Head over for a look yourself if you are in the area through February 16th. Photo credit: Henrik Haven.

For our newest Art Focus feature, we will be introducing the work of Shintaro Ohata, currently represented by Yukari Art in Japan. As both a painter and sculptor, he combines his acrylic renderings with polystyrene based sculptures into one piece in novel ways. These every day scenes of people going about their business from the Japanese artist are accented by the three-dimensional elements that are painted to look like the “backdrop” piece itself. Take a look at more examples of the work below… Tipped off by Graffart.

Over the weekend, the Jonathan LeVine Gallery hosted all new work from Aakash Nihalani alongside the solo from Haroshi (covered). Nihalani’s innovative geometric forms, collectively entitled Portal, featured a playful nature throughout the compositions, yet at the same time exhibited a strong sense of structure. In the NY-based artist’s words – “I try to create a new visual space within the physical confines of any piece I work on, through the illusion of three-dimensional imagery contained on a two-dimensional plane. When looking at the work—orientation shifts, shapes merge, direction inverts, foreground […]
