The traveling retrospective, which was recently shown at the Tate Modern in London (covered), features a diverse selection of her work from the 1940s through the present including traditional Japanese paintings, her canvases utilizing repeating motifs of dots and nets, furniture bristling with soft-sculpture phalluses, her polka-dot-painted pumpkins, whole room light installations, and more. Wandering through a wonderland of the […]

After a couple of false starts, AM finally got to see Karin Krommes‘ latest solo exhibition entitled Reign at Waterhouse & Dodd in London. Her beautifully layered paintings in oil and acrylic feature portraits of aircraft parts from discarded and abandoned planes. The principal series of Reign are four diptych presentations of ejector seats from fighter jets, rendered in so much beautiful detail that they feel almost as three-dimensional as the installation piece within the gallery of a Martin-Baker Mk2 housing a tree-filled landscape arrangement. The Los Angeles-based and MSK-affiliated RIME recently made the trip out to New York for this standout wall including the names of Smart Crew members DCEVE and TOPER. As evidenced by his other moniker “Jersey Joe”, RIME has roots and experience getting up in the area which he used to full advantage with this rooftop collaboration or tribute. While there, he also painted an outline of a sketch NYC’s HAZE did of RIME’s name in an alley under the Manhattan Bridge (set up by Klughaus Gallery). Via […]

Opposite Luke Chueh’s signing last Thursday (covered), Sweden-based artist Jonas Löfgren and San Francisco-based husband & wife duo DoubleParlour opened up their joint show at Spoke Art. Although the artists were not familiar with each others works prior to the show, Jonas’s graphite drawings and DoubleParlour’s sculptures both share a playful yet slightly sinister and mischievous feel to it. Check out more of our photoset below. Discuss this show here.
