A couple weeks ago, the 297 Tenth Avenue location of Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York hosted the opening reception for Undertow, Erik Parker’s new solo show. Drawing from a wide range of influences, the locally-based artist arranges these elements into complex compositions that become greater than the sum of its parts. The highly saturated palette as well as shaped canvases further accent his imagery, a commentary on the “world’s current political, social, and economic landscapes.”
