Andy Rementer is currently taking part in a double personal exhibition with Fulvia Mendini at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea in Milan. The artists joined forces through similar aesthetics of simplified, polished presentation, use of bright colors, and the nostalgia of illustrated children’s stories.
Strongly influenced by Milan and its vibe, Rementer produced a body of work that depicts the daily life, routines and the people he met or saw around town. His visual language has been developed through the years from working as an illustrator and cartoonist for newspapers such as the New York Times, the New Yorker, and eventually polished during his two-year stay in Italy. Inspired by design, comics, cartoons, and European art, from Romanesque art to the twentieth-century realism, his work feels both naive and playful yet profound and serious. With his brush, he tells the quick tales of everyday life through simplified imagery mixed with formal, classic compositions. The show includes about thirty works, including drawings, watercolors, and paintings by Rementer and acrylics on canvas, panel, and paper by Mendini.
