David B. Smith Gallery in Denver, Colorado continues it’s program of showing exciting and affordable young artists next month with the wonderfully titled “I had no defense, so I lied” solo exhibition by Ricky Allman, opening on Thursday, June 3rd. Allman has shown with the gallery before in group shows and part of a three person show alongside Grant Barnhart and Niall McClelland last year. This is Ricky’s first solo endeavor with DBS, and we look forward to seeing how his large scale compositions take over the gallery space in its entirety.

Allman’s fusion of modern architectural arrangements set alongside the geological form of mountainous landscapes depicts the classic engagement of built versus natural environment, and our attempt to package and control the beauty of nature. The dynamic color palette used in the new work is a continuation of Allman’s bold use of color set against monochromatic and monolithic rugged backdrops. We understand that in addition to painted works, the exhibition will also contain sculptures and a video installation.

The diptych in progress pictured above is entitled ‘Please Be Reverent While We Jeopardise Your Soul’, with each of the acrylic on canvas panels being 58×71 inches. Take a look at a few more preview images after the jump.
