Timothy Galoty & The Dead Brains is Jakub Julian Ziolkowski’s first solo exhibition in the US. The Polish painter unveils 28 paintings, which all seem to have been created this year. Off the bat, we can see that he works pretty fast and has a wildly vivid imagination. The title of the show refers to an imaginary rock band that occupies the universe Ziolkowski has given birth to. It is one that is surreal, macabre, dream-like, fluid, colorful, horrific, and beautiful. The work seems deeply personal and is informed by his experience in his small hometown Zamosc, which was taken over by the Nazis.Visit Hauser & Wirth in New York before the show closes on July 30 to check it out.
