Art Review 2010 Power 100 List

According to Art Review’s annual Power 100 list, Larry Gagosian, the world’s most powerful art dealer, is the art world’s most powerful figure in 2010.  Perhaps a sign of the reawakening of the art market, Iwan Wirth and David Zwirner occupy the three and four spots, giving gallerists three of the top four spots, while Serpentine’s co-director Hans Ulrich Obrist drops to #2.  Notable in this list is the reflection of the rise of performance art in 2010.  Performa founder RoseLee Goldberg makes it all the way up to #9, Marina Abramovic climbs to #35, and event-based artist Tino Sehgal enters the list at #44.  Art critic Jerry Saltz (#75) ranks higher than his wife Roberta Smith (#80), which may cause some uneasiness at home.

For a list that originates from a London-based magazine, Los Angeles, which many feel is on the rise again in the art world, is very well represented in the top end.  Along with hometown hero Larry Gagosian, Eli Broad is #8, Jeffrey Deitch #12, Mike Kelley #26, Tim Blum and Jeff Poe #33, Eugenio Lopez #38, and Ann Philbin #52.
