About 30 years before her inclusion in the 2006 Whitney Biennial and the appearance of her work on billboards in Chelsea, Marilyn Minter was already exploring issues of sexuality, glamor, fashion, the body, and commodification. See the genesis of what has progressed to become her signature bold, hyper-realistic close-ups of glamorous and sexy lips, tongues, and other body parts at her show opening March 31 at Team Gallery. Paintings from the 80s includes pieces created earlier in the artist’s career (in the 1980s surprisingly) that include pornographic money shots and H0llywood starlets paired with girls, depicting a certain passage and loss of innocence.
