Streets: Shepard Fairey (London)

As we mentioned last month, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be opening a show at the StolenSpace Gallery in London entitled Sound and Vision. Looks like he made an early trek across the pond to work on some large-scale public murals of his distinctive imagery including this new piece on Ebor Street in East London. Check some progress pics below… Photo credit: Hooked Blog. Discuss Shepard Fairey here.

Videos / Set Up: Mark Whalen – “Portals” @ Merry Karnowsky

Tomorrow night, Mark Whalen (featured) will be unveiling all new works at the Merry Karnowksy Gallery. Entitled Portals, the name certainly can be descriptive of the imagery seen in his paintings – strange beings that look like they might have appeared through doorways into another dimension or world. Whalen has come a long way since his days as a Sydney based street artist known as Kill Pixie, and this return to the Los Angeles showspace sees him further explore what we saw from him at last year’s exhibition there […]

Openings: Todd “REAS” James – “Free To be You & Me” @ V1 Gallery (Part II)

Earlier this week, we shared some photos of the paintings from the current Todd James (aka REAS) exhibition, Free To be You & Me, at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen. Along with these works, the NY-based artist also created an installation of what he imagines to be the Vandal’s Bedroom , chock full of drawings and other ephemera that very well could represent James’ bedroom at one point in time. Street art fans who were lucky enough to have visited the historic Art In The Streets exhibition at the MOCA in Los Angeles may recognized […]

Set Up: Mal Kadel – “Stuck On A Wave” @ Merry Karnowsky

After a showing there in 2011, Mel Kadel returns to the Merry Karnowsky Gallery for another exhibition this weekend. Entitled Stuck On A Wave, the new work features her delicate pen strokes and renderings of her characters frolicking in vibrant patterns and interlocking shapes. The opening is on Saturday, October 13th, but for now, check out some photos of the setup. Photo credit: theonepointeight. Discuss Mel Kadel here.

Fans of Esao Andrews surreal imagery have about three hours left to purchase his Joyride To Nettle’s Summit print if they are interested in adding it to their collection. Andrews’ first timed-release edition is 16″ x 20″, costs $85, comes signed, and if you remember, is based on a painting he submitted for the Death and the Maiden group show in June. Head over here before 12 noon PST if interested. Discuss Esao Andrews here.

This Saturday night, October 13th, The London Police will be unveiling all new works collectively entitled For Dogs Sake at Corey Helford’s main space in Culver City. Not only will the incredible linework and unique imagery of Bob and Chaz be on display, but they have taken their love for the canine to a whole new level with a dog show they organized last week featuring their artwork as well as contributions from artists like D*Face, Shepard Fairey, Logan Hicks, Jeremy Fish, and more. During that event, […]

Releases: KAWS – “Astro Boy Companion”

Following on the heels of the Resting Place Companion from KAWS comes this mythical new figure from the street turned contemporary artist. To true fans of KAWS out there, there have been glimpses before of the Astro Boy in a rumored ultra-limited run of 13 in the hands of celebrity collectors such as Nigo and Everlast. Looks like there will now be a smaller and different version for more casual collectors come October 27th. This most famous creation from Osamu Tezuka, revered in Japan as the “God […]
