Ai Yamaguchi – “kumogakure” @ Aki Gallery (Taiwan)

Closing just last weekend, the Aki Gallery in Taiwan hosted Ai Yamaguchi’s new body of work entitled kumagakure or hidden in clouds. A couple years back, we brought you word of an opportunity to purchase some nicely priced works from Scott Musgrove (featured). Included in this rendition of his summer online show are affordably priced studies, small watercolors, and drawings (including a sketch of part of a painting that we highlighted in a creative process article). Yesterday night in Paris, resident street tilemaster Invader put on the mother of all shows to celebrate getting up for the 1000th time at La Générale, organized by Gallerie Le Feuvre. Currently showing at the Von Der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal, Germany is an exhibition with a rather cumbersome title – Street Art – Meanwhile in deepest East Anglia, thunderbirds were go . . . . Streets: Phlegm – “Shrines and Caskets”

Looks like Phlegm has found a new location and is continuing to work on murals for his forthcoming photographic edition of his zine Phlegm Comic. We recently brought you coverage of Miss Van’s show in New York, but it looks like the other femme fatale of French street art also has something planned. Fafi, who is also able to claim graffiti roots from Toulouse starting in the 90s, will be hosting a pop-up show from June 14th to the 22nd at Galerie L.J. in Paris. Returning to The Standard in Hollywood, site of his Women: The Blacklight Paintings show a couple of weekends ago, Ryan McGinness continued his busy schedule in LA with drawing sessions as he sketched live models in the hotel lobby glass vitrine space (see Tim Biskup) last Wednesday thru Friday. We haven’t seen an exhibition in person from Nathan Spoor in a while (although we did enjoy his curation of the Suggestivism show), so we headed over to the Bold Hype Gallery in New York a couple weeks ago to check out his new body of work – Phantom Passport. Viewing Nathan’s paintings is like enjoying glimpses of alien cities or taking a look inside their otherworldly palaces. Preview: Culver City Artwalk 2011

We’re sure many of our readers will be strolling the annual Culver City Artwalk today (2-8pm) visiting their favorite galleries and related events. Here are some suggestions for those heading out starting with some group shows at Thinkspace and LeBasse Projects and ending with some that are currently showing – Zhang Huan at Blum & Poe and Flight & Fable at Corey Helford. Gary Baseman’s (featured) ChouChous and Wildgirls (above) will also be out there entertaining the crowds with their art performance Giggle and Pop.
