Streets: Eine – LA Weekly Building

UK-based street artist Ben Eine, who recently showed in SF (covered), made the trip down to Southern California soon after as we saw him at both the D*Face opening and of course participating at the Art in the Streets exhibition (covered) at the MOCA. Just like in San Francisco, he found time to work on some street typographical magic, this time on the LA Weekly building. More images of the crossword themed piece after the jump…

Openings: Souther Salazar – “You Come Too” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Last Saturday in New York, Souther Salazar presented a delightful new body of work at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. The show, entitled You Come Too, featured paintings of fantastical worlds, inventive mixed media assemblages, and rich installations centered around ideas of inclusion, sharing adventure, and togetherness which in no small part were inspired by his recent life experiences. More photos after the jump…

Sketchbook: Elbow-Toe

It’s time to once again revisit our sketchbook feature. This time, we highlight some of the drawings of Elbow-Toe (interviewed) who we recently caught up with in London.  If you remember he was in town for his Black Rat Projects show (covered) and also found time to get up on the streets. Looks like besides his more complicated self-described “cut paper paintings,” the NY-based artist also has some traditional drawing skills. Take a look at more of these studies after the jump that he worked […]

Preview: Naoto Hattori – “The Magic Caravan” @ Dorothy Circus Gallery

The last time we covered one of Naoto Hattori’s exhibitions, he was wowing the Los Angeles crowd with his psychedelic works. Next Thursday, on April 28th, he opens another show a world away in Italy at the Dorothy Circus Gallery entitled The Magic Caravan alongside Mark Elliot. You can expect more of Naoto’s signature paintings exploring beauty in the grotesque and unexpected, all rendered in painstaking detail. Take a look at more preview images as well as a video after the jump…

Preview: Jessica Harrison – “Broken” @ Jealous Gallery

Jessica Harrison, whose bloody ceramic sculptures first caught our eyes at a group show last summer, will be opening a solo show later this month in London. Entitled Broken, a nod to the similarly named collection of figurines (Breaking), Harrison’s gory handiwork will be on display at the Jealous Gallery starting on April 28th. Fans of self-mutilation will have to make sure they stop by to check out the decapitated and disemboweled takes on these classic pieces if they are in town. More preview images […]

Streets: Blu & Ericailcane (Palestra)

Although we didn’t see any of his work in the Art in the Streets exhibition at the MOCA last week (probably related to the controversial buffing of his mural), most people still consider Blu one of the most important street artists at the moment. In fact, both him and fellow Italian artist Ericailcane (who recently collaborated on a mural in Bologna) are some of our favorites out there and they reaffirm our love for their work with this recent mural they are working on in […]

James Jarvis x Coca Cola 125 Year Anniversary Cans

We last caught up with James Jarvis (interviewed) when he created a sweet animated short for Nike. The video was all the more poignant as James has been an avid runner himself.  Well, perhaps he loves his Coke as as well as it looks like he has considered to expand his illustrative portfolio with this collaboration for the popular soft drink’s 125 year anniversary. Take a closer look at his iconic characters gracing the outside of the cans after the jump…
