Currently at the Corey Helford Gallery in downtown Los Angeles, a four person show is on view through January 18 entitled Chimera. Included in the group exhibition are Canada-based artist Josh Tiessen’s paintings that explore interactions between the natural world and manmade structures, Australian artist kelogsloops’ anime inspired suspended-in-time female portraiture, Chicago-based Sasha Ira’s new series entitled Undercurrents, and painter and illustrator Bao Pham’s lush and colorful work. Openings: Chris Berens – “Feniks” @ Jaski Gallery

Over the weekend, Jaski Gallery in Amsterdam hosted the opening of sold out solo show from Chris Berens entitled Feniks, Utilizing a special mixed media process, the Dutch artist hand paints different fantastical elements on glossy paper and then collages them together to get his unique finished image. Included in the new body of work was the centerpiece of the exhibition, Crowning Glory, a large 240 x 220 cm painting with its own specially designed and frame created by a master wood carver. Streets: Banksy (Birmingham, UK)

Just in time for the holiday season, Banksy recently unveiled a new piece highlighting the plight of the homeless. Created in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, UK, the wall was introduced in a video by the elusive street artist on his Instagram featuring what looks to be a homeless man laying down on a bench pulled by stenciled reindeer (like Santa Claus). Streets: Invader (Paris)

Recently in Paris, Invader revealed the largest version of his infamous space invader ever made at Place Stravinsky, just by the Centre Pompidou. Installed on the side of a building that also features the work of Shepard Fairey and Jef Aerosol, this piece from the French artist is his most ambitious mosaic to date. Update: Greg “Craola” Simkins – “Rabbit Season”

Recently, Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) revealed a series of works he created centered around “ushers between worlds for day dreamers and wandering souls alike.” He was of course referring to the bunnies in his new Rabbit Season pieces, a look at what would have happened if a rabbit had taken the place of Mickey Mouse in Disney’s world. Tonight at the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York, Kris Kuksi & Mark Wagner will be opening a joint show entitled Bounty. While both artists take found objects and create assemblages, the materials they use and end results are quite different yet both quite striking. Recap: 2019 Complexcon (Long Beach)

Last weekend, the fourth edition of ComplexCon (also see 2016 & 2017 & 2018) Long Beach once again bought together “pop culture, music, art, food, style, sports, innovation, activism, and education” for a unique event. Previews: “Universes 2” @ The Garage

Following up on a successful group show last year (covered), Sasha Bogojev (the curator) has moved the exhibition to Amsterdam with a new roster of artists for a second iteration. Streets: Shepard Fairey – “Shadowplay” (London)

While in town for his show at StolenSpace, Shepard Fairey (interviewed) painted several murals around London. His third and final piece was entitled Shadowplay (one of the many versions of his Andre the Giant motif) and was painted outside of the Truman Brewery. Playing with halftone and gradient, the wall featured new technical territory for the American artist – looks like it turned out great tho!
