Previews: Stormie Mills & Remi/Rough – Selected Moments @ Unit 44, Newcastle

Currently in residence at Newcastle’s Unit 44 gallery space, Remi/Rough and Stormie Mills are putting together the work for their collaborative exhibition entitled Selected Moments. The pairing have worked alongside each other on numerous occasions, and the very different styles that each artist brings compliment each others work perfectly. Collaborations can often sound like a good idea at the planning stage, but it is rare to see the actual execution of the work, well – work. Stormie’s figurative work occupies Remi’s abstract landscapes in an emotive blend of […]

Here’s a look at something KAWS is working on (reminiscent of a piece he painted for the gallery last November) for the Emmanuel Perrotin booth at this year’s Art Hong Kong. After stirring up the fanboys with news of an imminent wood Karimoku companion release, the street turned contemporary artist follows up with news that he will be unleashing his double x’s at the vital Asian fair, a wise choice considering the market. Discuss KAWS here.

Openings: Hush – “Twin” @ New Image Art

After first working on a wall in Melrose (covered) several days ago, it finally came time to reveal Hush’s (interviewed) newest collection of works at New Image Art in West Hollywood. Like his street mural at De La Barracuda, the UK-based artist’s exhibition Twin (previewed), which opened last night, plays with the concepts of duality and symmetry while featuring his intricately textured and multi-facted works combining his Far East influences as well as what looks to be a homage to Gustav Klimpt. The gallery walls […]

Releases: KAWS – “Karimoku” Wood Companion

Almost a year since images first leaked on the Wood Companion, KAWS appears to be ready to give an official drop to the Karimoku Companion, a more fine art spin akin to the bronze iterations of his signature mascot. Priced at¥252,000 (~$3,000) and 30cm tall (~11.8 inches), the super sexy Medicom produced figure is from an edition of 100. As is always the case, those in Tokyo will get first dibs at Original Fake next Saturday, May 28th. Otherwise, if you’re interested and you’ve got […]

Videos: Steve Powers (aka ESPO) – “Days”

Peering into the ESPO creative process as it relates to his recent exhibition, Days (covered), which revolved around his practice of producing a single painting – metaltations – every single day as form of artistic meditation, comes a new video, aptly dubbed Days. The footage illuminates Steve Powers as a father and as an artist, focusing on the creation of the 100th daily painting created in succession. A noble accomplishment and a testament to the dedication to his craft, evidenced firsthand by the sheer amount […]

Openings: Sweet Toof – “Dark Horse” @ Factory Fresh

UK street artist Sweet Toof recently visited New York to show his latest series of indoor works at Brooklyn gallery Factory Fresh. Moving his iconic outdoor “Toofy” characters from the gritty urban arena into a more subtle indoor setting, Sweet Toof focused on creating beautiful oil on canvas paintings. Of course, it wouldn’t be a show if there wasn’t some outdoor art. Sweet also hit up the exteriors along with a vehicle beautification campaign. The show lasts until tomorrow, May 22nd, so check it out if […]

Videos / Streets: Hush – “Twin” (Los Angeles)

Finding time before his opening in Los Angeles tomorrow night, Hush’s (interviewed) hit up a wall with his multi-textured technique.  The mural at De La Barracuda is consistent with his new body of work that plays with the idea of duality through a series of Twin paintings.  On a busy Saturday night of art, make sure you make time to head over to New Image Art between 7-10pm.

Video: RETNA x Vistajet Project

A notable artist missing from the Street Cred opening at the PMCA last weekend was street calligraphist RETNA (featured).  All the more curious as he was arguably the most visible participant seeing that he painted the entire facade of the museum. Now we know why. He was in Geneva at EBACE2011 finally realizing the project we first told you about here by getting up on Global Express XRS for VistaJet. Via Known Gallery. Discuss RETNA here.
