Recap: David Choe // Igloo Hong (Morocco) – Part II

After a first look at the latest Igloo Hong funded project from David Choe (featured) in Morocco, we now have some more photos to share with you from the the trip. Granted creative freedom, El Mac, Andrew Hem, Mars-1, Aaron Horkey, and DVS-1 all did their best work getting up on whatever walls they could find, whether it be solo or with a collaborative effort. Take a look at more shots below of the action… Discuss David Choe here.

Recap: David Choe // Igloo Hong (Morocco) – Part I

Last month, David Choe (featured) led a group of artists into the wilds of Morocco on another Igloo Hong funded project (also see Cambodia). Included on the trip to Marrakech were repeat attendees El Mac & Andrew Hem along with newcomers Mars-1, Aaron Horkey, and DVS-1. As usual, it sounded like it was an artistic as well as a spiritually-revealing journey – you can read more from straight from the horse’s mouth here. Discuss David Choe here.

One of the first satellite fairs we hit during Basel Week Miami was SCOPE Miami, situated nicely in their pavilion on the beach off Ocean Drive. Openings: Aaron Horkey & Esao Andrews & João Ruas – “The Gilded Age” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Over the weekend, Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles opened the doors to The Gilded Age featuring new works by Aaron Horkey, Esao Andrews, and João Ruas. Co-curated by Andrew Hosner of Thinkspace and Horkey himself, the duo set out to put together a “dream-team” exhibition, giving it a title that harkened back to the late 19th century and the industrial revolution.  Horkey ended up handpicking Andrews and Ruas to accompany him and the results are truly outstanding. Horkey even hand-drew the titles for each piece directly […]

Upcoming: Aaron Horkey & Esao Andrews & Joao Ruas – “The Gilded Age” @ Thinkspace Gallery

On September 12th, the Thinkspace Gallery will be welcoming Aaron Horkey, Esao Andrews, and Joao Ruas in for a joint show entitled The Gilded Age. We have already seen firsthand the magic Horkey & Andrews can create together and are anxious to see what Ruas can bring to the mix. Each artist is a master of setting a scene with mood and atmosphere as well as rendering their artistic vision in a distinctive way. Take a look at the amazing effort from Horkey on the typography and showcard […]

Openings: “Vitality and Verve” @ Long Beach Museum of Art

Leading up to the opening of the Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape exhibition last night at the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA), we had the opportunity for a preview look at some the murals being created (shared with you here & here). From what we saw, we were really excited to see the culmination of something historic and what we have never seen to this scale before with you – a museum exhibition featuring epic indoor murals from a strong roster of what is a mix of […]

Previews: “Vitality and Verve” @ Long Beach Museum of Art (Part I)

Yesterday, AM had the opportunity to stop by the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) for what’s shaping up to be an epic exhibition. Put on in collaboration by Thinkspace Gallery, the people behind POW! WOW!, and LBMA, the main attraction of Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape are the on site installations and murals. While there, we enjoyed seeing the finishing touches and beginnings of works from Audrey Kawasaki (seen above), Aaron Horkey, Brendan Monroe, Cryptik, Esao Andrews, Greg “Craola” Simkins, Hot Tea, James Bullough, and Nosego. […]

POW! WOW! ’15 / Streets: Esao Andrews & Aaron Horkey

Arguably one of the best murals created at this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii (more coverage here) and one of the most unusual and interesting collaborations was the one by Esao Andrews and Aaron Horkey. None of the artists are really known for their mural skills or even large scale works, so it was interesting to watch their talents pulling off one of the most detailed and exceptional pieces created. Painting on the facade of Fresh Cafe in Kaka’ako, this was Esao’s second ever mural he’s worked on, while […]
