Openings: Brian Adam Douglas (Elbow-Toe) – “How to Disappear Completely” @ Andrew Edlin

Last month, AM paid a visit to the Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York to take in a new solo show from Brian Adam Douglas (interviewed), otherwise known as Elbow-Toe. Utilizing a painstaking process involving shards of cut paper in place of brush strokes, the resulting art works are amazingly textural and complex. These new pieces deal with the aftermath of natural catastrophes and the rebuilding of life and purpose that must take place. In addition the collage pieces, Elbow-Toe has also included some drawings in this new body of […]

Streets: Elbow-Toe in London

Brian Adam Douglas, a.k.a. Elbow-Toe (interviewed) was in London a couple of weeks ago for his Due Date solo exhibition (covered), currently on at Black Rat Projects. While in town, he made sure to put up a few street pieces. AM caught up with the artist as he installed a black-and-white version of his linocut print Brother, Can You Spare a Dime? on Rivington Street in Shoreditch — opposite the landmark SCARY mural by Eine. We were able to witness the joys of trying to […]

Openings: “Ways of Seeing” @ Black Rat Press

Black Rat Press‘ stunning lighting rig came into its own this past Thursday when the new three-person show “Ways of Seeing” opened. Featuring new work from Swoon (interviewed), Brian Adam Douglas a.k.a. Elbow-Toe (interviewed) and Matt Small (interviewed), the vibrancy and luminosity of the colors of Douglas’ and Small’s work was really highlighted by the controlled approach to lighting against the brickwork backdrop of the gallery. More after the jump…

Teaser – Black Rat Press Annual Print Show – London

If last year’s event is anything to go by, the Black Rat Press Annual Print Show in London, opening on Saturday, 21st February will be worth checking out. The chance to see printmaking demonstrations, ask the printers questions, as well as check out new editions, trial proofs, hand colored rarities, and other treats from the Black Rat Press’ stable of artists could well make this one rather special. Artists involved include Matt Small (above), D*Face, Sweettoof, Brian Adam Douglas, Gaia, Lucas Price, Nick Walker, Blek […]

Black Rat Press @ the London Art Fair

As previously mentioned, Black Rat Press exhibited at the London Art Fair where they showed works by Swoon, Matt Small, Lucas Price, Asha Zero, Brian Adam Douglas, D*Face and Nick Walker.  As expected, Walker’s print sold out, but there were actually some pretty good originals available.  In particular, Swoon’s and Matt Small’s pieces were quite strong.  Take a look after the jump.
