Charity: Lucy McLauchlan Auction for Sound It Out

Lucy McLauchlan just set up an installation at 48Sheet Gallery in Birmingham to benefit Sound It Out: a charity that strives to bring support and opportunities in music to deprived people in Birmingham and the West Midlands. The MTV Staying Alive Foundation will be holding a benefit art auction and exhibition entitled RE:DEFINE to mark the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the AIDS virus. Streets: Risk & Retna – Heal The Bay Charity Project (Santa Monica)

Charity: Benefit Art Auction @ TT-Underground

Last Saturday, TT-Underground Gallery in New York City hosted the opening of the “Benefit Art Auction” to display works of art to be put on on eBay (here), with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross and GlobalGiving to aid those effected by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan. Charity: “Artist Help Japan” Art Auction

Christina Conway, who if you remember curated the kokeshi show (covered), has again put her curatorial skills to work – this time to benefit the Japan relief efforts. Artists like Audrey Kawasaki, Yoskay Yamamoto, Jeni Yang, Allison Sommers and many more were asked to paint “Emas” – small wooden tablets left at Japanese shrines, usually with an image on one side and a handwritten wish or prayer on the other. Charity / Releases: Shepard Fairey – “Dark Wave / Rising Sun” Print

Set to release online at a random time tomorrow, March 24th, is Shepard Fairey’s (featured) new print, Dark Wave / Rising Sun. Although the image may be a little foreboding for some collectors’ taste, the proceeds do go to a good cause – the relief efforts in Japan.  The run will be 700, size 18″ x 24″, and priced at $60. Despite being imprisoned last time he was in Japan and forbidden to return, David Choe (featured) still has love for the Land of the Rising Sun. This new print (limited to 88) entitled “Red Moon” will be released today at 6 pm PST at Trapeze Editions with 100% of the proceeds going to the relief efforts in Japan. Events: Benefit for HiArt!’s Time In Program @ Haunch of Venison NYC

On February 1st, Midtown gallery Haunch of Venison will play host to an auction event to benefit HiArt!’s Time In children’s art initiative. Openings and Benefit: Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary Auction & Party

The much anticipated Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary party (previewed) went off this past Saturday and drew over 2,000 art lovers to the newly remodeled Factory Place Arts Complex in downtown Los Angeles. Mister Cartoon had all his classic rides out on display in the outside area as well as a beautiful chopper and his show-stopping pimped out Ice Cream truck inside with the rest of the art on display.
