The first UK solo show by LA-based Sage Vaughn (referred to in early May) opened a few weeks back at Lazarides Gallery in London with a title ostensibly borrowed from the 1980 play by Mark Medoff or its subsequent film adaptation. Last week AM attended dual receptions to celebrate the launch of Agnès B’s Howard St. flagship store in New York’s SoHo district. It looks like the Barry McGee and Amaze mural on Houston & Bowery has been painted over with a giant fire extinguisher Sace Irak tag. If you want to check out this tribute to Dash Snow, you had better hurry as it sounds as though it will only be up for a day until a new winter mural goes up. “Shred,” an exhibition curated by New York downtown art critic and Paper magazine editor Carlo McCormick, opened last Thursday night at Chelsea’s Perry Rubenstein Gallery. As the name implies, the show features collage-based art from a diverse group of artists, including Dash Snow, Elbow-Toe (interviewed), FAILE (featured), Shepard Fairey (featured), Mark Flood, Erik Foss, Swoon (interviewed) and Judith Supine. Dash Snow Memorial @ East River Amphitheater

Auction: Polaroid Collection via Sotheby’s

Now that the Polaroid Corporation has gone into bankruptcy, it leaves behind a legacy not only in your fond childhood memories of snapping away your day’s activities without a care, but also in an important collection of instant photographs by some of the best artists of the 20th century.Â In an effort to raise money to pay their creditors, that collection will soon head into auction courtesy of Sotheby’s, with the remaining pieces to be sold via private sales.
