Openings: “20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz” @ LAMAG

Last weekend in Los Angeles, alongside Robert Williams’ amazing new exhibition (covered), a group show celebrating 20 years of Juxtapoz also opened to the public. Curated by Andrew Hosner from Thinkspace and Gary Pressman from Copro Gallery, the showing featured artists, emerging and established, who have graced the pages of the trailblazing magazine. Openings: “Praeteritum Nunc Futurum” @ Merry Karnowsky

Over the weekend, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles showcased work from artists that they will work with in the future with a group show entitled Praeteritum Nunc Futurum. Listed officially were artists like Greg Simkins (seen above), Todd Carpenter, devNgosha, Andrew Hem, KMNDZ, Travis Louie, Nathan Ota, Lezley Saar, Jeff Soto, Nicola Verlato, Edward Walton Wilcox, Mark Whalen, William Wray but pieces from others could be seen as well. Upcoming: “Black Moon” @ Model Citizen Studios

Open for two days only starting tonight, Black Moon is a group exhibition featuring four California-based artists Jessicka Addams, Camille Rose Garcia (seen above), Elizabeth McGrath, and Marion Peck. Curated by Alix Sloan, the show will feature Addams’ octopi-related imagery, CRG’s recent obsession with bats, McGrath’s three-dimensional art, and Peck’s clown portraits. Openings: “MiXTAPE LA” @ Lebasse Projects (Chinatown)

Last night, the Chinatown location of LeBasse Projects hosted Mixtape Los Angeles, a group show curated by by Jessicka Adams and Brian Wakil of Dark Dark Science with part of the proceeds going to Downtown Dog Rescue and Stray Cat Alliance. Twenty four artists created pieces that explored “the effect of music on the process of creation” including Camille Rose Garcia, Elizabeth McGrath, Gary Baseman, Marion Peck, Mark Ryden, Matthew Bone, Melissa Haslam, Tara McPherson, Tim Biskup and more. Baby Tattooville ’09 – Reverse Studio Visits – Elizabeth McGrath

On Saturday, Oct. 3rd, just an hour or so before the big KMNDZ reveal, Elizabeth a.k.a. Bloodbath Mcgrath held a reverse studio visit alongside Miss Mindy (more on that later) giving patrons an insight to her sculptural techniques. As an added bonus, Liz provided the Baby Tattooville guests with their own clay, allowing them to create their own personal mini works of art.
