Previews: Evah Fan – “Inside, Outside, Come Around” @ Park Life

This Friday (May 24th), Evah Fan will be opening Inside, Outside, Come Around, her new show at Park Life in San Francisco. For this exhibition, the locally-based artist has created a handful of window studies for the gallery space, creating “windows” in a small windowless room. The premise of the new body of work as well as the imagery once again highlights the sense of play and whimsy that can often be seen in Fan’s work. Take a look at some preview images below… Discuss Evah Fan here.

Showing: Evah Fan – “A Waffle Lot” @ Legion

Currently at Legion in San Francisco, Evah Fan has a series of works on display entitled A Waffle Lot. Curated by Alice Wu, the solo from the Oakland-based artist features gouache paintings on wood panels and paper, new prints, zines, and multiples. Fan’s human or animal subjects are often small when compared to the size of her pieces, which allows them room to wander freely in their environment, often times without standard boundaries. Her eclectic choice of imagery can perhaps be linked to her lifelong addiction to […]

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. The work was hung on the walls in grids of 24 cards, each echoing the aspect ratio of the individual works themselves as each work was 6×4 inches. The variance of work encompassed photography […]

Previews: “Wider than a postcard” @ Breeze Block Gallery

On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. With over 200 artists and 400 individual works, this exhibition looks to be both bigger than the previous event and also smaller at the same time as all of the artworks are postcard sized at 6×4 inches. Each artist is either making work on a found / owned postcard and adapting / adding […]

Openings: Evah Fan – “What Have You” @ Park Life

Last Friday evening, Park Life in San Francisco presented Evah Fan’s latest colorful, mysterious and minimalistic artworks (previewed). For this show, she veered slightly away from her usually microscopic gouache paintings and incorporated blocks of colors and figures to depict what might happen in everyday indoor scenarios from the point of view of a person peering through a window. Also included in the exhibition is a series of mini sculptures that contrast with the paintings and appear to poke out towards the viewer from the […]
