Update: Luke Chueh for “East West Connect” @ Above Second

In a couple days, as we install the show, we’ll be able to show you a complete preview, but for now, take a look at this piece from Luke Chueh (interviewed). For this painting, EVERYBODY LOVES PANDA (YELLOW), you can see that Luke’s signature sad bear character is trying to blend in with his new […]

Teaser: Arrested Motion – “East West Connect” @ Above Second (Hong Kong)

For those in Hong Kong, we are excited to announce our first ever curatorial project to be hosted by the Above Second Gallery at the end of next month. East West Connect will feature artists who hail from an Asian background and/or those who have utilized imagery inspired by the Far East in the past. Themes to be explored include ideas of identity for those who have dual cultural allegiances, melding and fusion of artistic influences, and the discussion of the work when brought into […]

Preview: “Robots” Benefit Show @ Giant Robot 2

This weekend, the Giant Robot 2 gallery in West LA will be hosting a benefit show featuring some artists that we have covered before here on AM like Edwin Ushiro whose piece you see above. Because of the down economy, the participants are putting in work to support this creative showspace on Sawtelle St. that have giving many emerging artists their first opportunities in the past. Included in the robots themed exhibition are other artist like APAK, Gary Baseman, Buff Monster, Jon Burgerman, Luke Chueh, […]

Openings: Brendan Monroe & Evah Fan – “Figments” & “Come What May” @ Galerie L.J.

Last Saturday in Paris, a special show from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and Evah Fan opened at Galerie L.J. The American duo each brought separate bodies of work entitled “Figments” and “Come What May” respectively and both included paintings as well as sculptural works. As Brendan mentioned in our preview for his show, he has included some painted landscapes for the characters and faces that reappear in his work and we think these turned out incredibly well. When looking at these organic mountains and plains, the […]

Preview: Evah Fan – “Come What May” @ Galerie L.J.

Yesterday, we brought you a preview of Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) body of work for a Paris in a joint exhibit with Evah Fan. Today, we can give you a glimpse of Evah’s work as well ahead of the opening this Saturday night at Galerie L.J. Looking through some of the preview images from this show, what strikes us is how unpredictable her narrative is, with unexpected surprises in each piece that lead us to think “what is going on here?” At the same time, we […]

Openings: Brendan Monroe @ Galerie L.J. Beaubourg

Brendan Monroe’s show “Dwindle to a Tiptoe” (previously previewed) with Evah Fan just opened last Thursday in Paris. It seems that nowadays, more and more American artists that we are familiar with are showing internationally. Unfortunately, that makes it hard for the stateside AM crew to see the work in person, but Adeline from Galerie L.J. Beaubourg was nice enough forward some pics (right before opening we presume) for us to share with you all. As you can see, Brendan and Evah were enjoying themselves […]
