Time flies… This year’s Baby Tattooville (see our 2009 and 2010 coverage) is creeping up on us and will go down the weekend of October 7-9. Although he may not be a familiar name among the roster of Pop Surrealist and Low Brow artists that are typically identified with Baby Tattooville, James Gurney is a highly accomplished artist and author known for his illustrated book series Dinotopia, as well as his plen-air landscape paintings. After a successful exhibition last year (“Beyond Baby Tattooville”), the Riverside Art Museum brings back Baby Tattooville with this year’s roster of artists, with a show called “Son of Baby Tattooville”.Â It was a unique museum group show in that almost all the artists who had works in the show made it in person to the opening.Â Museum-goers were greeted with highly-representational pieces by each artists, such as Audrey Kawasaki‘s classic Two Sisters.
