Previews: “Fantastical Beasts” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On April 18th, Corey Helford Gallery will be virtually opening a new group show entitled Fantastical Beasts featuring work from over 50 artists from across the globe (including Sarah Folkman – seen above). Focusing in on mythological creatures, the show lets the participants’ creative juices flow with their renderings and sculptures of beasts from their imagination. On April 6th, Corey Helford Gallery will be presenting new works from Josie Morway including ten substantial pieces (ranging from 16″ x 20″ to 36″ x 48″). Entitled The Remediators, the Boston-based artist’s new surreal wildlife paintings were inspired the idea of bioremediation – in which plants, animals or microorganisms break down contamination in soil or water. Morway further states – “I have a deep love for wildlife and an acute terror about the increasing imbalances in our ecosystems and the cavalier destruction caused by human industry. […]

Previews: “Lush Life 6” @ Roq La Rue

Tonight in Seattle, Roq La Rue celebrated their re-opening after a two year hiatus with a group show entitled Lush Life 6. Like the previous iterations of the exhibition, artists were free to interpret the theme as they saw fit. Participants this year included Camille Rose Garcia, Josie Morway, Lola Gil, Casey Curran, Kazuki Takamatsu, Brandi Milne, Bella Ormseth (seen above and below), Sarah Leea Petkus, Rebecca Chaperon, Kai Carpenter, and Kari-Lise Alexander. Previews: “Le Carnival Des Animaux” @ Creatura House Gallery

Tonight (May 10th) in Seattle, Creatura House will be opening a group show entitled Le Carnival Des Animaux. With animals set as the theme, artists Peter Ferguson, Travis Louie (seen above), Josie Morway, Scott Musgrove, Kari-Lise Alexander, Lola Gil, Jim Blanchard, Demi Raven, and Jessica McCourt all contributed something for the exhibition. Openings: “Charismatic Megafauna” @ Roq La Rue

Charismatic Megafauna opened at Roq La Rue earlier this month to a packed house. Celebrating the vast diversity of the animal kingdom, the exhibition features a wide variety of creatures, some recognizable, while others are not from this world. A promising new artist that we have been keeping our eye on, Linnea Strid, is participating in a great group show this weekend at Thinkspace. The Swedish painter, who has so far impressed collectors with her realistic rendering of water and glass, will join a a group of talented young artist including Josie Morway, Dabs Myla, Wesley Burt, Jacub Gagnon, John Park, and Craig ‘Skibs’ Barker.
