Basel Week Miami ’13: Pulse

One of the long-time satellite fairs we always check out during Art Basel Week in Miami is Pulse. As in previous years, the fair was held at The Ice Palace, just south of Wynwood, and consisted of a wide range of domestic and international galleries, including New Image Art, Martha Otero, Yancey Richardson and Mixed Greens. Visitors were greeted outside by installations by Tim Biskup (seen directly below and Brandon Vickerd, and when inside, they were treated to a dizzying array of intriguing contemporary works by young as […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Miami Project

The Miami Project successfully launched its second rendition during Basel week with a well-curated selection of U.S. galleries, including such notable names as Yossi Milo, Joshua Liner, Mark Moore, Richard Heller and David B. Smith. Located in the Wynwood Arts District, the young art fair focused on primary representation of emerging and mid-career artists, which was a nice counterpoint to its much larger neighbor, Art Miami. Overall, Miami Project was well-attended, and both galleries and collectors seemed very enthusiastic about the showing. Below is a […]

Openings: Richard Colman @ Guerrero Gallery

We last heard from Richard Colman when he showed in Toronto (covered) last year with Andrew Schoultz. This time around, he is showing alongside another talented artist, Alex Lukas (covered), at the Guerrero Gallery in San Francisco. Lukas filled the project room with a selection of paintings and monochromatic works populated by a surreal mix of his hooded figures, nudes, and bears. Take a closer look at the opening and work in the photos below… Photo credit: Berlin Tomas (with installation shots by Randy Dodson). Discuss this show here. Discuss Richard Colman here.

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. The work was hung on the walls in grids of 24 cards, each echoing the aspect ratio of the individual works themselves as each work was 6×4 inches. The variance of work encompassed photography […]

Preview: Alex Lukas & Richard Colman @ Guerrero Gallery

After a look into Alex Lukas’ studio as he prepared for his solo showing at Guerrero Gallery opening this Saturday night (May 11th) in San Francisco, it’s time to bring you some preview images from the Philly-based artist. Employing a series of printmaking techniques along traditional artistic processes, Lukas is able to create a new gritty look at American landscapes filled with graffiti, decay, and sometimes submerged after our worst fears of global warming come true. His works will be shown with Richard Colman’s in […]
