On November 6th, Subliminal Projects will be opening a new show “Pattern Recognition”. The premise behind the title is that each artist included has in some way produced work that consists of reoccuring events or objects, not just in a literal sense though. Show up on Saturday night and you will be treated to the works of Seonna Hong, Nikki McClure, Dalek (interviewed), Richard Colman (interviewed), and Souther Salazar (some in progress works seen above). This past weekend, Richard Colman (interviewed) opened his solo show “Something Better” at the Guerrero Gallery. Fans of the Bay Area artist were delighted to see not one, but two immersive installation pieces filling the spacious showroom. As you can see from part of the installation above, Richard has started exploring pieces with different geometrical patterns in with a more metallic palette. You will see that many of the standalone pieces featured this new direction in the photos after the jump…

The last fair we attended while in Switzerland was Volta6, and although it was way across town from Art Basel (covered, part 1 and 2) and Scope (covered), in a somewhat industrial part of the city, we were glad we made the trek. Unlike VoltaNY (covered), Volta6 was not focused on single-artist booths, so the smaller fair offered visitors a large range of interesting emerging artists.
After six months of studio time, and a week in the gallery prior to the opening installing his latest exhibition, Richard Colman opened his “Keep Out The Light” exhibition at New Image Art recently. We have been watching out for updates on how the show was coming together, as Colman’s shows are usually very installation heavy, and always exciting. Richard was pounding the tools until the early hours each day with the install, and the scale & intensity of this show certainly doesn’t disappoint – […]
Set to open tonight at New Image Art is Richard Colman’s “Keep Out the Light”. The new body of work will feature some of the artist’s signature imagery with increasingly frantic geometric patterns interspersed with the interconnected characters that inhabit his paintings. The bright and beautiful hues of his configurations provide a stark contrast to his violent and often overtly sexual world. From the look of things, visitors will be greeted with some pretty impressive murals and installations when the show opens. Check our more […]
