AM was in attendance Saturday night for the opening of Italian street artist Ericailcane’s first Los Angeles solo show entitled “Man is the Bastard” (previewed) at Carmichael Gallery.
The highlights of the show were the massive installation pieces that covered both of the gallery’s front walls, ominously greeting attendees with a taste of the absurd scenarios found in the rest of the work on display. Ericailcane’s intricate drawings and etchings, presented in a dream-like style reminiscent of childhood storybooks and fairytales, features clever imagery of animals in an alternative universe exacting revenge on mankind. We were impressed by the level of detail and refined execution of each of the pieces – the pictures really don’t do them justice.
