Teaser: Stella Im Hultberg/Andrew Hem @ Roq La Rue

Here is a little taste of what’s to come as we look ahead to February.  One of the highlights will be a two-person show of Stella Im Hultberg and Andrew Hem opening on the 13th at Roq La Rue. Seen above is a shot of some works in progress from Stella’s studio.  It’s hard to tell exactly, but looks as though she will be continuing her works on canvas.  It will be interesting to see what she has in store as she is continuing to […]

Setup: From the Streets of Brooklyn @ Thinkspace

Continuing our coverage of “From the Streets of Brooklyn” (teased) at Thinkspace opening this Friday, January 9th, AM stopped by the gallery to check out the progress of the installations and to give our readers a peek at some additional pieces featured in the show. Put simply, what we saw was enamoring. With three amazing installations, Ellis G. chalking the streets, and pieces reminiscent of a stroll down a few Brooklyn blocks, including works from heavy-hitters Faile, AIKO, Bast, Elbow-Toe, Gaia, Imminent Disaster, Swoon, and many […]

The roster includes such notables as Barry McGee, Clare Rojas, Ed, Templeton, Chris Johanson, Thomas Campbell, Shepard Fairey, Jim Houser, Jeff Soto, Swoon, Faile, David Ellis, Bast, Aiko, Os […]

Shepard Fairey’s “Hope” – Smithsonian: National Portrait Gallery

Probably the most ubiquitous and iconic image from President-elect Barack Obama’s election campaign enters into the permanent collection of the Smithsonian at the National Portrait Gallery. Appropriately, they plan to hang it up on inauguration day. The purchase was made possible through the generosity of Heather and Tony Podesta who donated money to acquire the art work.  Congrats Shepard. Keep it locked here, as AM will be on hand to cover the inauguration, Manifest Hope, and all the related festivities. Via UsaToday Discuss Shepard Fairey […]

Black Rat Press will be exhibiting at the London Art Fair (Jan 13-18) where they will be showing works by Swoon, Matt Small, Lucas Price, Asha Zero, Brian Adam Douglas, D*Face and Nick Walker.  Also garnering significant interest is the new print “The Empires’s State” by Nick Walker from his “The Morning After” series.  The release will on January 13th (6 pm) at the fair, but there will also be an online option for those who are overseas and can’t make it. Details after the […]

The critically acclaimed and accomplished illustrator is finally making his “fine art” premier and we brought you a little peek of this upcoming monster. Dalek @ Redux Contemporay

A site-specific installation by Dalek is scheduled to open to the public on January 23rd (6-10pm) at the Redux Contemporary Art Center with Dalek in attendance. We wonder if his “space monkeys” will be making an appearance although they have been seen less and less in his work. The show is entitled “Broken, Beaten, and Buried,” and will give Dalek a chance to expand on his usual colorful 2D paintings. We are excited to see what him and his team will come up with. A […]

Madoff Effects on Art Market

Sounds as though the slump in the art market is not only due to a lower demand, but also because of a higher supply of good art.  One of the reverberations of the biggest ponzi scheme in history by Bernie Madoff appears to be an increasing supply of good art for sale.  It’s hard to believe but according to the Wall Street Journal, many art collectors who invested with Madoff had so much of their money lost that their sole liquid asset they have left […]

Update: Anthony Lister

We recently came across this picture of Anthony Lister working on an etching for an upcoming release from Paper Monster scheduled for this month.  No details yet as to the edition size, price, or even the image, but from the looks of it, the print will most likely be of the painting seen below that was shown by New Image Art at Art Basel week. We are also looking forward to his two-person show with Craola coming up next month at Fifty24SF, but more on […]
