Last time we were with Pharrell & Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, it was at Art Basel Miami. Over a half year later, they reveal this secret project at Art Basel Switzerland. Check this amazing collaboration between Takashi Murakami, Pharrell Williams and Jacob & Co – a mind blowing sculpture entitled “The Simple Things.” Think Superflat meets hip hop and Metroid.
The sculpture is based on Murakami’s signature “DOB” character and features an onyx fiberglass husk with a pearlescent glow to compliment the vibrant rainbow colors which Murakami is known for. At the mouth of sculpture are objects which are part of our “simple” everyday life. These “simple things” are adorned with the “bling” and glamor by the master of flash himself – Jacob the Jeweler. This masterpiece collaboration (which took over 2 years to complete) was subject of a furious bidding war at the preview and fetched a reported $2.8 Million!

Emmanuel Perrotin also had a booth at Design Miami showcasing Murakami’s iconic “Flowerball” and “Time Bokan” made as carpets with one elegant twist… they’re crafted by Louis Vuitton.
