Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District

After our coverage of the Art Hong Kong Fair, we turn our attention to the much discussed development of Hong Kongâ€™s West Kowloon Cultural District which will involve building a large contemporary art space on 40 hectares of reclaimed land including a museum, exhibition space, performing arts venues, as well as residential and retail projects.Â Although progress is slow due to the continuous public consultation process of the $3 billion project, the completion date of phase one has been set for 2016.Â An international search […]

We recently came across the mind blowingly detailed charcoal work of Robert LongoÂ whichÂ led us to do a little digging to see what’s goingÂ on with this talented and renowned artist.Â His twenty year retrospective (1979-2009) show at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary ArtÂ in Nice, France just opened last month and will be showing until the end of November.Â Not sure exactly which works were included but our vote would have been for some of his newest work this year from the YingXiong (Heroes) series, an example […]

Black Rat Press‘ stunning lighting rig came into its own this past Thursday when the new three-person show “Ways of Seeing” opened. Featuring new work from Swoon (interviewed), Brian Adam Douglas a.k.a. Elbow-Toe (interviewed) and Matt Small (interviewed), the vibrancy and luminosity of the colors of Douglas’ and Small’s work was really highlighted by the controlled approach to lighting against the brickwork backdrop of the gallery.Â More after the jump…
