AM attended the opening of Mark Ryden’s latest series of work “The Gay 90’s: Old Tyme Art Show” at Paul Kasmin Gallery (previewed). As expected, the space was packed with art enthusiasts that were clamoring to see Mr. Ryden’s amazing talents. Mark certainly didn’t disappoint as he created a cohesive body of works that are as diverse as they are great. It seems to have it all, dreamy canvas paintings, detailed drawings, and even gorgeously rendered watercolors. It was a true pleasure to see Mark’s work in person.

In addition to the droves of fans that attended, many industry elite rolled out to pay homage to one of the cornerstones of the Pop Surrealist genre. Artists such as Nicola Verlato, Eric White, Camille Rose Garcia, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, Gary Baseman, Travis Louie, Molly Crabapple, Fred Harper, Adam Wallacavage and Kukula to name a few. The show runs until June 5th so do yourself a service and stop by this great exhibition. Check out the opening night coverage after the jump.
