Fame Festival ’10: Vhils

After Swoon (interviewed) kicked things off for this year’s Fame Festival, it appears that the versatile Vhils has arrived in Italy. As one of the many participants from the stellar lineup this year, the Portugal based artist will be working on street pieces as well as a new print for the show. More images after the jump…

Teaser: “Tarot – Artists’ Visions of the Future” @ Galerie Petits Papiers

Sounds like there are some Tarot themed shows and projects coming up this year. First up is “Tarot – Artists’ Visions of the Future” at Galerie Petits Papiers in Brussels. Although some of the other artists are unfamiliar to us, we do know that the supremely talented Ashley Wood painted the piece seen above for this exhibition. Openings: Roa @ Factory Fresh

Talented street artist Roa continued his onslaught of recent shows (Cologne, Paris and London) with a new body of work for the Factory Fresh Gallery in New York. Reprising his signature lenticular paintings and utilizing found objects as canvas with movable parts revealing the anatomy of his animal subjects, the Belgium-based artist once again wowed the audience with ingenious constructs and on site installations. Preview: Richard Colman – “Keep Out the Light” @ New Image Art

Set to open tonight at New Image Art is Richard Colman’s “Keep Out the Light”. The new body of work will feature some of the artist’s signature imagery with increasingly frantic geometric patterns interspersed with the interconnected characters that inhabit his paintings. The bright and beautiful hues of his configurations provide a stark contrast to his violent and often overtly sexual world. Streets: Ron English – “Badvertisements” @ Welling Court Mural Project

Our friend Ron English just sent us some images from his latest endeavor at the Welling Court Mural Project. Utilizing his classic sarcastic wit, he answers the question “does advertising work on me?” with a series of acerbic yet hilarious ads. There are plenty of other artist involved with the project in Queens such as Chris Stain, Dan Witz, Michael De Feo, Swoon, Gaia, Ellis G., Remi/Rough, Tristan Eaton, Sweet Toof among many others with the opening tomorrow, Saturday, May 22nd from 4-10PM. Jeff Soto x Pearl Jam

Jeff Soto (interviewed) recently shared a project he has been working on – a Pearl Jam poster for a concert that played yesterday at the Madison Square Garden. He also nicely summarized his process for creating a screen print for those who are interested.. Streets: Greg Simkins, Dabs & Myla and Jersey Joe Mural @ Static Medium

Yesterday, we tagged along with Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured), Dabs & Myla and Jersey Joe to watch them create a fresh mural christening the new location of Los Angeles print studio Static Medium. From 8am to the late afternoon, the artists took on the blazing sun with tons of spray cans using their crazy nozzle skills. As we suspected after seeing the first couple pieces from Banksy in NY, he wasn’t done with the Big Apple yet. Looks like several other pieces have popped up in various locales such as Soho and Chinatown, although you’ll have to be quick if you want to see these in person as haters have been defacing them almost immediately.
