Jeff Koons x BMW Art Car Unleashed @ Centre Pompidou

Jeff Koons just premiered his latest contribution to the historic BMW “Art Car” line at the historic Centre Pompidou. The pictures of the final product was even more impressive than the initial prototype image we first showed you. This unique BMW M3 GT2 will be racing in the 24 Hours of Le mans endurance race in France on June 12-13th, 2010. Art HK ’10: Aya Takano

Another artist that we were looking forward to seeing at Art HK 10 was Murakami protege, Aya Takano. The Japanese artist, whose show we also covered in NY, was exhibiting at the Emmanuel Perrotin booth and has been one of the highlights among strong sales at this year’s Hong Kong Internation Art Fair, apparently selling several of her pieces to Chinese and Korean collectors. Streets / Video: Aakash Nihalani – “Stop, Pop & Roll”

Looks like Aakash Nihalani decided to take matters into his own hands to make sure motorists are able to see stop signs clearly in Brooklyn. Here is a video of a recent urban intervention he performed utilizing some of his classic geometric cutouts. The footage shows in detail how he goes about creating the piece as well as takes you on a walk by some street pieces by other famous artists in the area. Also, some images after the jump…

Since we brought you pics of Conor Harrington (interviewed) doing this thing in Israel, it would only be natural for him to also pay a visit to Palestine (hinted as his next step in his blog). Sounds as though he particularly enjoyed overlaying his pieces and interacting with the underlying Arabic graffiti that is prevalent in the area. It’s been a while since we’ve covered anything in Rome, but today that changes. Gagosian Gallery brings one of today’s most important artists to the historic city with eight new paintings by Christopher Wool. The silkscreen and enamel large works on linen feature Wool’s signature gestures and technique. On top of the silkscreen foundation, Wool employs stenciling, rolling, dripping, dragging, and spray-painting. Smith Gallery in Denver, Colorado continues it’s program of showing exciting and affordable young artists next month with the wonderfully titled “I had no defense, so I lied” solo exhibition by Ricky Allman, opening on Thursday, June 3rd. AM recently visited with Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) at his Los Angeles studio. Taking time out of his marathon work sessions, he gave us a sneak preview into his coming show “Familiar Strangers” (teased) at LeBasse Projects which opens June 12th. The show is comprised of not only his signature “east meets west” brand of technique and imagery, but marks the expansion of Yoskay’s work into ceramics and clay modeling.
