Streets: Jeff Soto in New York

After Jeff Soto (featured) tasted the streets again in London after ten long years, it looks like he’s definitely gotten the itch since then. Following a sick mural for Art Basel Week last December in Miami, he now has put up a piece in Chelsea ahead of his show opening this Saturday night at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Keep it locked on AM as we’ll have more to follow… Discuss this show here. Discuss Jeff Soto here. Join Jeff Soto’s facebook fan page here.

Preview: KAWS @ Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum

Here’s a quick sampling of what fans of Brooklyn-based contemporary artist, KAWS, will have in store for themselves tomorrow night during the opening of his first museum exhibition at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. Bringing his own brand of street inspired pop art to such an elevated stage is no doubt a crowning achievement for an artist who initially made his way bombing billboards and beautifying phonebooths and bus-stops in and around NYC. With more attention deservedly being paid to the artist as a result […]

Scott Campbell x Louis Vuitton Collaboration

Artist Scott Campbell is moving from sculpting on stacks of currency to putting his incredible skills on high-end designer luxury goods. In an upcoming collaboration with Louis Vuitton, Scott creates a line of extraordinary designs to match the elegant products from one of the pimpest brands around. Working with renowned creative director Marc Jacobs, Scott joins the long line of iconic artists such as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, and Stephen Sprouse in creating incredible collaborations between the worlds of fashion and art for LV. Look for this […]

Studio Visits: Emma Tooth

Emma Tooth first caught AM’s eye nearly a couple of years ago with a showing at Bohemia Gallery in York. A simple drive past the gallery, where one of the paintings from her “Consilium Plebis” series was displayed in the window and BOOM, we were hooked. Eager to find out more about this artist and her powerful hyper-real work, we found out that she had a solo show upcoming at the Biscuit Factory in Newcastle, which we duly checked out and were equally impressed by. […]

Teaser / Installation: Matt Haber “The Little Voyageurs” @ The Bldg.

Brooklyn based artist Matt Haber opens a brand new solo show this week at The Bldg in Covington, Kentucky. We’ve followed Matt’s work for a number of years with his regular showings at Jonathan Levine in New York. However, this is his first showing in the Bluegrass state, and the latest in an exciting line of new contemporary exhibitions The Bldg have been bringing over the last year, following the UK’s Prefab77 and everyone’s favorite monochrome dynamic duo, The London Police. Haber’s folk art inspired […]

Update: Greg Simkins

It appears one of our lucky forum members was able to recently score a rare commission from Greg “Craola” Simkins‘ (featured) featuring none other than The Count and his Sesame Street crew (well, minus Ms. Piggy and Big Bird who are apparently dead in this alternate universe). Take a look at the details after the jump including the preliminary sketches and marvel at how Greg is able to seamlessly incorporate all the famous children’s show’s imagery into the painting. Oh and if you haven’t seen […]

Video: Ryan McGinley – “Entrance Romance”

In the art world, while a lot of galleries go on break and artists travel to their favorite relaxation destinations, summertime is McGinley time.  Although the young photographer has put his signature summer road trip sessions into retirement, his film career is progressing nicely.  Following on the heals of his Pringle of Scotland video featuring Tilda Swinton, comes Entrance Romance, featuring model Carolyn Murphy. Although it may be disappointing for those familiar with McGinley’s work that Murphy does not appear naked in the film, there […]

Streets / Video: Twist, Amaze, Resq, Stefan, Deej, CBT Crew in San Diego

So, that epic wall chock full of handstyles that we posted up last night was actually from San Diego where Barry McGee and the rest of the crew (Amaze, Resq, Stefan, Deej) were in town to prep for the big “Viva La Revolucion” exhibition opening next month at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. If you want to check some of this work out, you’d better hurry as apparently the San Diego residents aren’t as into art as some towns and have been raising […]

Video: Friends With You x N.E.R.D – “Hot-n-Fun” ft. Nelly Furtado

After recent news that the Miami-based artist collaborative, Friends with You, customized a Rolls Royce for N.E.R.D., the trio have now released a music video for “Hot-n-Fun” featuring the said car as well as imagery from the artists scattered throughout the video. Friends With You also recently participated in the Wish Come True Festival during Luminato in Toronto, Ontario which included a pretty awesome outdoor installation.  Check out all the pics after the jump…

Streets: Twist & Amaze

Not sure when or where this went up, but it looks to be a pretty sick “tag-athon” of this particular wall. As you can see, it seems both SF legends Twist (Barry McGee) & Amaze were involved in this piece as reported by Upper Playground. For those who can’t get enough of McGee check out our coverage of his recent museum shows in Oakland and Bolinas. Discuss Barry McGee here.
