After her last two solo shows in Los Angeles at Corey Helford Gallery and London at StolenSpace which AM covered for you here and here respectively, the third of the big art capitals, New York, gets its turn next week for Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) with “Las Adelitas” at Joshua Liner Gallery. Taking the title of the exhibition from the the name given to the female fighters of the Mexican revolution, Ji’s portrayal of these soledaderas stems partly also from symbolic self portraiture.
The exhibition contains 15 new acrylic paintings, with some using Sylvia’s popular thematic approach of Dia de los Muertos imagery, but all of the works portraying her unique vision of femininity and beauty. The show opens on July 10th alongside Travis Louie’s “Curious Myths”.
