Openings: “Assorted Flavor” @ Known Gallery

This past Saturday, the Known Gallery and gallery director Casey Zoltan, presented an exhibition titled Assorted Flavor which featured the eclectic work of seven different artists. The lineup included the likes of Kevin Ancell, Jason Jägel, Saber, Patrick Martinez, Greg Lamarche, Push and Augustine Kofie. Displayed across a wide open space perfectly suitable for this kind of exhibit, the artwork showed an interesting mix of graffiti-style art, mixed media work, and even some traditional painting. Preview: Meggs – “Inner Demons” @ Red Bull Studios

Australian artist Meggs, who we recently connected with at this year’s POW WOW event (covered), is bringing a whole new body of work to Red Bull Studio on June 23rd, this Thursday night. Presented by Zero Cool at the London showspace (address after the jump), the show entitled Inner Demons will explore the fears, desires, and obstacles each person faces within themselves. Getting back to his roots, James worked on the cover for the all-comics newspaper (Issue #9) published by Desert Island. A young artist we have had our eye on for some time, Frank Gonzales, is getting ready for a solo in Santa Fe, New Mexico at Beals & Abbate Fine Art. The New York-based artist is currently working on the new body of work in preparation for the September including the piece seen above. We like his addition of fragmentation and abstract elements to his love for nature that gives classic imagery a refreshing new take. More detailed shots after the jump…

You may remember back in April we wrote about the massive piece Belgian street specialist ROA put up at Unit44 as part of their White Walls Project in Newcastle. Last month, AM stopped by the solo from Tim Hon Hung Lee at Gallery Nine 5 in New York to check out his new body of work entitled You were born with a light between your eyes, I was born to answer your sun. Utilizing Chinese ink on rice paper, the London-based artist paints complex and rich pieces that draw from the stories of his family and ancestors while also mixing in elements of his Western upbringing. Streets: Claudio Ethos (Sao Paulo)

After getting a massive mural up in Los Angeles, it looks like Claudio Ethos has returned home to Brazil. The Sao Paolo-based street surrealist recently posted up a couple of presumably new pieces he did in his native city on his blog before heading over to the CityLeaks Festival. Candice Tripp (interviewed) recently dropped off some mini-paintings off at Black Rat Projects in London, with which she also recently collaborated with to release a print. She now tells AM that these first 20 paintings from the series collectively entitled The Tribe first formed in her mind as she was preparing for her Joshua Liner Gallery in 2009 (covered).
