It’s been a while since we caught up with Stephan Doitschinoff (aka Calma). The Brazilian artist last showed with Jonathan Levine Gallery back in 2008 (covered) but now is back with a new series entitled Novo Asceticismo, which hits religious themes via mixed-media works rich in symbolism and highlighted by Latin text. Doitschinoff reflects on the sacrifice and deprivation necessary for the modern man to continue and live purely despite a society filled with vices and common mental traps.
