Streets: World Roundup (April 9 – April 15)

As you have seen from our coverage, Richmond, Virginia just had a stellar cast of artists roll by for the G40 Art Summit. To follow that up, this weekend sees more murals in town for the RVA Street Art Festival with another sweet lineup of artists. Rewind: April 9 – April 15

Made has a new video (via Beautiful/Decay) where they interview American artist Kevin Earl Taylor, who was in Berlin a few months ago for his exhibition Deviant Instinct at Circleculture Gallery. Art Focus: Amanda Nedham

For this week’s Art Focus, we present to you the graphite skills of Amanda Nedham. A good representation of her work is a new collection of pieces she has produced for her Half of Less Than Ten showing that opened last week at the LE Gallery in Toronto. These new intricate drawings are inspired by Napoleon’s love letters to his wife Josephine and demonstrate her attention to details as well as her morbid take human impulses and their relationship to animals. Teaser: Barry McGee @ Gallery Paule Anglim Off-Site Space

There’s not much info out on this, but thought we would mention it for our readers in the Bay Area tonight (April 14th). Barry McGee, who’s a legend up there, will be revealing an installation at Gallery Paule Anglim’s offsite space (1717 17th Street in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill district) along with some other invited artists. The reception if 3-6 pm so head over early if you don’t want to miss it. This should a nice warmup for McGee’s upcoming PRISM showing in Los Angeles. […]

Teasers: Hilary Pecis & Erin M. Riley – “Consensus” & “Forgotten in a File” @ Guerrero Gallery

This weekend, the Guerrero Gallery gallery will feature exhibitions from both Hilary Pecis and Erin M. Riley. Entitled Consensus, Pecis takes over 100 unaltered image files sourced from Google images to create her artistic compositions. Erin M. Riley presents a new body of work called Forgotten in a File featuring her signature woven tapestries exploring the lives of the internet generation with imagery depicting social media interaction and addiction. Signings: Scott Campell – “If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long” @ OHWOW Book Club

If you remember earlier this year, we told you about a new book by Scott Campbell entitled If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long. As you may know, the good folks at OHWOW have a fresh new retail location called the OHWOW Book Club in New York which was the perfect setting for a recent book signing by Campbell for his new publication. Showing: Gregory Euclide – “Nature Out There” @ Nevada Museum of Art

Currently at the Nevada Museum of Art, Gregory Euclide has a collection of works on display collectively entitled Nature Out There. Reminiscent of another artist regularly covered here on AM, Adam Neate (interviewed), Euclide has progressed his work to where there is an added dimensionality to the paintings he creates. Blending natural and found materials with his rendered scraps, the Minnesota-based artist creates encapsulated worlds where “pristine notions of landscape meet the reality of our current environment.” More photos after the jump…

Streets: David Shrigley – “How Are You Feeling?” (New York)

David Shrigley, who is currently putting on a retrospective at the Hayward Gallery in the UK, has also found time to design a new billboard next to the The High Line in New York. The piece which will remain in place through May 7th features self-reflective speech bubbles and is entitled How Are You Feeling? If you remember, John Baldessari also hit up the spot, sits alongside the elevated park at 18th Street and Tenth Avenue, back in December with his $100,000 bill. A closer look […]

Openings: Tessar Lo – “Past, Present, Past-Present” @ Cooper Cole

A couple weeks ago, the Cooper Cole Gallery held court for attendees of Tessar Lo’s newest solo show titled Past, Present, Past-Present. The new body of work included medium to large-scale pieces featuring dream-like abstract imagery centered on his boy & animal characters and painted with rich and lush colors. Also, available will be a sculptural edition, don’t say, dansé, produced by Dark Matters in an edition of 25 for those interested. More opening photos after the jump…

Openings: George Condo @ PRISM

Last weekend, the PRISM Gallery on Sunset was the stage for a showing from influential American artist George Condo. Featuring a survey of his work including largescale paintings, sculptures, and drawings, the pieces were selected with a special emphasis on the portrait-style work of the last decade in mind. Stop by soon if you are interested in this rare assemblage of Condo’s work in Los Angeles as the short exhibition ends on April 28th to make way for Barry McGee. More photos after the jump…
