Preview: Dabs Myla – “Break Night Lovers” @ Known Gallery

Tomorrow night (May 5th), Known Gallery will be the place to be if you are interested in seeing the newest solo show from Dabs Myla. Break Night Lovers will feature the duo from down under’s cartoonish stylings executed in the form of new paintings, drawings, and installations. Showing: Michael Page – “Elan Vital” @ Shooting Gallery

Showing through tomorrow in San Francisco at the White Walls Gallery is Michael Page’s (interviewed) solo show Élan Vital. Tackling issues of evolution, the development of organisms, spirituality, and the infinite variations of consciousness, the locally-based painter has created a collection of works that bring viewers into his dream world featuring an explosion of colors and a melding of protoplasmic energies. Frieze Week NYC ’12: Frieze Art Fair – First Look

There’s a new contender for the biggest baddest art fair in New York City and it hails from overseas. Streets: Conor Harrington (Ireland)

Last we saw of Conor Harrington (interviewed), he was hitting London with an impressive new collection of paintings at Lazarides (covered) of which you can see the some of the photoshoot and photoreferences here by the way. While the successful showing was no doubt satisfying, it did not quench his thirst for outdoor work. On a recent trip back to his home country, he painted this new quickie mural outside of Lurgan, Ireland. Discuss Conor Harrington here.

Update: JR x Jose Parla – “Wrinkles of the City” (Cuba)

As we mentioned back in March along with set of photos from JR (featured) taken during a trip to Cuba, the French photograffeur was prepping for the next phase of his The Wrinkles Of The City project. It looks like that project has been started already as a collaboration with Jose Parla in Havana as evidenced by a glimpse of the action in the pic above. Releases: Tyler Stout – “Avengers” Poster

At a random time today, Mondo will be releasing a new Avengers poster from Tyler Stout on their website. Coinciding with the opening of the movie that brings together some of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes, the new image features representation of the entire team as well as the villain Loki. Google: Happy Birthday Keith Haring!

With the late Keith Haring’s birthday today (May 4th), Google has put up a tribute icon at the top of the search page. The street legend would have been 54 years old today if not for his untimely death in 1990. This “google doodle” is just one in a long series of variants that have celebrated a multitude of topics that feature art familiar to AM readers including Murakami, Norman Rockwell, and Jackson Pollock. Preview: Eishi Takaoka – “I Am Fine” @ Giant Robot 2

On Saturday night, Giant Robot 2 on Sawtelle St. in Los Angeles will be the stage for 34 of Eishi Takaoka’s new sculptures. The Japanese artist is known for his hand-carved wooden heads which are often painted and then placed atop empty glass medicine bottles.
