KAWS x MTA wraparounds

Readers in New York should keep on the lookout for special trains decked out in KAWS imagery leading up to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. If you remember, the NY-based artist will have his Companion character realized as a 40-foot-long balloon for the parade and now has designed a matching look for the MTA Times Square Shuttle (3 whole cars inside and out). Later tonight at the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be unveiling all new paintings alongside works from John Brophy. The small soldout showing features six of Keyes’ signature isolated environments, or organic cubism if you will, that seem to continue the narrative seen with an earlier piece, Exodus 1 – which also happens to be the image used for the associated print release. Opening: SSUR – “From The Cradle To The Grave” @ Scion A/V Installation

Last week, the Scion A/V Installation hosted the opening of New York streetwear label SSUR’s (brainchild of Ruslan Karablin) exhibition From The Cradle To The Grave. Like all shows at the newly opened space in Melrose, limited edition goods were produced specifically for the event to go along with the display of original art. The show runs through December 1st. Openings: Jacub Gagnon – “More Human Than Human” @ Thinkspace

Last weekend, Canadian painter Jacub Gagnon (interviewed) put his new work, collectively entitled More Human Than Human, on display in the Thinkspace project room. The sold out show of seven pieces featured his surreal renderings of wildlife set against a stark black background combining his creatures with objects often dictated by a clever play on words.
