Streets: JR (Japan)

After working on a particularly poignant mural in Washingon DC, JR has headed to the Far East to spread his Inside Out love. Going mobile with his giant photo booth in a converted truck, the French photograffeur has been traveling though Japan with his crew and local volunteers, focusing especially in areas hit by the devastating tsunami which still have not completely recovered over on year out. Preview: Kozyndan – “Breaking Circles, Broken Light” @ Narwhal Gallery

On Friday night (November 16th), Kozyndan will be returning to Canada for an exhibition entitled Breaking Circles, Broken Light at the Narwhal Gallery in Toronto. Included in the exhibition are 25 paintings, 6 ceramic sculptures and 3 resin sculptures all based on various endangered animals in a more experimental show for the husband and wife duo where they try all kinds of new mediums. Todd James x Vistajet

Astute fans may have noticed that Todd James’ new exhibition opening this week in New York is being sponsored in part by VistaJet & Bombardier Aerospace, the same people behind a series of shows by RETNA in the past (covered here & here). At that time, you may also recall that RETNA painted the tail of one of Vistajet’s private charter planes (video here). Last Friday, AM traveled to Seattle to attend a couple shows at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Not only did we have the privilege to enjoy Josh Keyes’ fantastic new paintings, but we also took time to take in John Brophy’s new body of work entitled New Songs for the Standard Model. Brophy’s intense imagery often features scientific formulas, symbology, Asian-influenced references and artifacts of the modern world. Showing at Vienna’s Inoperable Gallery currently, Damn Straight is Kid Acne’s latest body of work with a focus on his stabby women characters. We love these tough sisters of the sword, and the whole mystical world that surrounds them. If you remember, AM last hung out with Anthony Lister while he was busy getting up and putting on shows in Los Angeles (see video here). The Australian artist is now set to open simultaneous exhibitions next weekend at both Lazarides the Outsiders locations – London & Newcastle. Unslung Heroes will feature portraits of after-party revelers, rendered in his loose style mainly in a red, black and white color palette as well as some sculptural works. Next month in Seattle, the Roq La Rue Gallery will be hosting a joint show with Femke Hiemstra and Ryan Heshka entitled Let The Devil Wear Black. Hiemstra has been spending lots of time on an new body of work featuring her anthropomorphized animals and their surreal adventures – all rendered exquisitely. Here are some glimpses of the Dutch artist’s new painting, but plan to attend the opening (scheduled for December 7th) if you are in the area. Discuss Femke Hiemstra here.
