This Saturday night (February 2nd) the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles will be home to a new solo show from Victor Castillo. Under Heavy Measures will consist of paintings on paper & canvas, sculptures, and sketches from the locally-based artist all created in the deceptively innocent style of illustrations for children’s stories. The title refers to his feeling that “the scales of power have become oppressive: inequality grows, the protests increase globally, and the brutality with which these demonstrations are repressed is also amplified” which fits into how his work generally deals with ideas of political turmoil, brutality, greed, and other evils.
