Releases: ROA – “SK8room Skatedecks”

Belgium-based ROA, who recently had a solo showing in his home country (covered), has also been working on a project with SK8room. The set of three decks (Decay 1, 2, & 3) featuring the street artist’s anatomical style are the result of  a trip to Cambodia, to meet the guys from Skateistan (20% of sales go to them) in Phnom Penh, a not-for-profit organization that teaches empowerment through skateboarding to children in impoverished countries. Upcoming: Nychos – “Pellis Os Omentum” @ Galo Art Gallery

After seeing Austrian painter Nychos’ work in person in Hawaii recently (here & here), we developed a better appreciation for his painterly technique. He now has a new solo show opening up on April 13th at the Galo Art Gallery in Torino, Italy entitled Pellis Os Omentum. Studio Visit: Mark Whalen – “Maze Walkers” @ Chalk Horse (Sydney)

Mark Whalen’s new solo show, Maze Walkers, just opened at Chalk Horse in Sydney, Australia. His latest body of work displays his hand-painted gridded environments with some new stylistic directions. Working with themes of geometry, ritual, science, and sport, Whalen’s work continues to increase in complexity in both narrative and composition, but with a focused clarity that is well suited to his signature style. In tune with his recurring theme of modern mythology are some porcelain vessels adorned with his stylized figures in cobalt blue. […]

Streets: Ludo (France)

After a bit of traveling, LUDO (interviewed) appears to have spent a good part of last month back in his home country of France. Continuing his series of street works – Nature’s Revenge – the French artist keeps creative modifying creatures and plants for war with humans. Preview: Scott Radke – “Interface” @ Stranger Factory

This Friday (April 5th) in Albuquerque, the Stranger Factory will be exhibiting all new works from Scott Radke (interviewed). Entitled Interface, the new sculptures from the Cleveland-based artist will feature the distinctive use of burlap and clay for his surreal and anthropomorphized renditions of animals. Along with all original sculpts, there will also be some customized skelves – all featuring his eerily expressive faces. For those interested, Radke will be showing alongside Kathie Olivas and Stephen Webb. Discuss Scott Radke here.

Our friends at TrustoCorp are back to their old tricks again. Known for their street interventions and “reverse shoplifting” (here & here), the collective is once again visiting stores and placing their products into the natural shopping environment. After traveling and painting through different parts of India, AEC (one half of Interesni Kazki) has continued on to South Africa. The trip took him through Johannesburg and Cape Town where he got up with the Dali-like surreal imagery that he and his brother have become known for. Releases: Todd James – “Opening Ceremony x Spring Breakers” Collection

For fans of the American cult director Harmony Korine’s movie Spring Breakers, you may be interested to know that Opening Ceremony has released collection of apparel based on the new film.
