Thomas Canto recently created a futuristic installation inside of one of the rooms at the Vieux Panier Hotel in Marseilles. This small hotel is built in an old Corsican grocery shop, and it has five unique rooms, each designed in a different style by a contemporary artist for a period of one year. Titled “XL Room”, Canto’s abstract installation combines ropes and painted surfaces inside the space. Following the simple and clean black & white color scheme he is known for, this installation is the artist’s representation of the urban life around him. Chaotic, disorganized elements are in strong contrast with a strict and precise grid, which is noticeable when observing the piece from different angles, and it changes around the room.
