The exhibition, Ritual for Letting Go, features large-scale paintings that combine elements of painting and drawing with creative techniques such as layering pigment and paints and scratching in the compositions. The show explores interests and themes such as spirituality, magic, and the mysteries of the night and the truths that the […]

Showing: Berndnaut Smilde – “Antipode” @ Ronchini Gallery

We first introduced you to Berndnaut Smilde’s work last year, when a video was released documenting the Amsterdam-based artist’s amazing process of creating “clouds” indoors. Armory Week ’14: Scope

One of the satellite fairs we make a point to catch during Armory Week is Scope. Hosting a variety of genres, the event featured a diverse mix of street art, low brow and emerging contemporary art working together as gallerists brought work from artists which you may be familiar with here on AM. One surprise caught at the fair was the appearance of a freight truck door allegedly tagged by Banksy during his high profile artist residency in New York City. It was interesting to catch the trend […]

Art Focus: Fabio Magalhaes

This week’s Art Focus sees us taking a look at the unsettling work of Fabio Magalhaes. The young artist hails from Brazil, where he is based in the city of Salvador, also where he studied at the Federal University of Bahia. Working primarily in oils, Magalhaes paints as though he was a serial killer, with images of torture and body parts, and certainly it would be concerning if he used true photo references. So, we will just assume it comes from his imagination, studying anatomy textbooks, or […]
