From 5 – 13 April 2014, Perth in Australia hosted Public, “a celebration of urban art and creativity” whose goal is to “bring to Perth and the Pilbara urban, visual, and digital artists from around the world.” During this event, around 45 artists from Australia and around the world, created around 30 large-scale urban artworks, transforming walls and laneways with street art, projections, installations, and public events. Fleisher/Ollman Gallery in Philadelphia recently opened a group show titled Department of Neighborhood Services on the 11th of April. Showing new works by Isaac Lin, Dan Murphy and Barry McGee, the exhibition is yet another collaboration of artists who worked together on different projects for over a decade. After taking part in This is Not a Toy show (covered) curated by Pharrell Williams, the Argentine collective Doma recently opened an exhibition at Logo Galeria in Sao Paulo. Titled Multiverse, this is their first solo in Brazil, and a big step forward towards introducing their work to a wider crowd. The first is seen above and is entitled Devil In All Of Us, a timed edition that will be sold for 48 hours with the run size determined by the number of orders during that period of time. After traveling to Japan, UK-based artist Nick Walker (interviewed) returned to New York City for a residency that will lead him up to a showing in the Big Apple (more on that soon). French artist and globetrotter, Seth Globepainter, recently went back to Ukraine to paint more murals with his local artist friend, Kislow. While the eyes of the world are focused on this politically unstable region, the Paris-based artist and his Ukrainian friend decided to put some light and color into people’s lives by creating this beautiful mural in the Podil district, the old part of Kiev. Tonight in Los Angeles, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be opening a new show entitled 50 Shades Of Black at Subliminal Projects. The exhibition is centered around the third installment (also see 2011 & 2012) of new album cover artwork, a series of works that Shep is know for, inspired by the 12-inch record cover format. Along with original hand painted multiples, there will also be a box set of screen prints available each containing the 50 new designs.
