Later this month, Jeff Koons will be unveiling a retrospective at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art and there are plenty of events to coincide with this key exhibition. One of these will feature his famous outdoor flowered sculpture entitled Split-Rocker at the center of Rockefeller Center. Playing off Koons’ fascination with dichotomy and the in-between, this sculpture melds two notable children rocking toys – the horse and the dinosaur. Its right side is a horse and its left side is a dinosaur.
Currently, the enormous sculptural piece is being grafted with fresh flowers by crews working around the clock. AM stopped by to capture the progress and it already looks amazing. When finished, it will consist of 50,000 plants and measure over 37 feet. If you’re in New York, stop by and witness this wonderful piece developing.
